Travel Pictures Gallery.com - Silk Road - Kazakhstan
a series of travel images from Central Asia, the Silk Road, Kazakhstan. A country in central Asia that shares borders with Russia, China, and the Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It's a landlocked country with a coastline in the west on the Caspian Sea. It was part of the Soviet Union until its independence in 1991. Being the ninth largest country in the world it's inhabitants number just around 20 million; large parts of the country are quite sparse desert or steppe country. In this trip we visit Almaty, the largest city with a surprising European feel to it. The Kozha Akhmed Yasaui Mausoleum, in Turkestan is one of the architectural highlights in the country. Taraz, and Shymkent, also in the south of the country are visited on the way.
