Travel Pictures Gallery.com - Peru - Arequipa and Colca Canyon
a series of travel images from Peru, Arequipa, a city situated in the south of the country at an altitude of 2380 m. sits just below the altiplano on the coastal plain. It's a mixture of Spanish and Mestizo culture and architecture with El Misti volcano towering over the city. It's the second largest city after Lima with about 850.000 inhabitants. UNESCO has declared it a Human Heritage site. Travellers usually visit the altiplano which rises up to around 4000m. Around 160 km from Arequipa is famous Colca Canyon with the Cruz del Condor, a viewpoint where Andean Condors can be seen most days throughout the year. The canyon itself offers spectacular scenery and seeing several condors hovering over it is one of the highlights of a visit to Peru.
