Kaunas is the second-largest city in Lithuania some 90 km west of Vilnius and has a charming old town definitely worth a visit. Thousands of crosses standing on a hill, "The Hill of Crosses" (Kryziu Kalnas), in Siauliai in the north, is a a national centre of pilgrimage. On the road you get a feel of the laidback rural countryside.
