a series of travel images from Iran, Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the Persian Achaemenid Empire (550–330 BC). Situated some 60 km northeast of Shiraz in Fars Province in the south of the country. The impressive ruins from the era of emperors Cyrus the Great, Xerxes and Darius are on the Unesco World Heritage list. Nearby Naqsh-e Rustam was the necropolis at the times of Persepolis.
