a series of travel images from Central America - Honduras, Copan. One of the most important sites of the Mayan civilization. Situated in the west of Honduras just a short distance from the border with Guatemala. Copan was a flourishing city during the classical Maya period from approximately 159 AD until its gradual demise around 1000 AD. It is visited by tourists on the "Ruta Maya" trail as it is not to complicated to combine a vist with Tikal in Guatemala. It's mostly famous for the sculpted stelae which have been well preserved. Copan is a Unesco World Heritage site.
