Travel Pictures Gallery.com - Guatemala - Panajachel and Chichicastenango
a series of travel images from Guatemala, Panajachel and Chichicastenango. Panajachel is a town on the shore of Lake Atitlan (Lago de Atitlan), in the southwestern Guatemalan Highlands at an elevation of 1597m. The population in this region is for a large part indigenous, of Maya descent. Scenic Lake Atitlan with its dormant volcanoes and the villages with their traditional people have put this region on the tourist map. Chichicastenango is a town north of Panajachel and its population is largely indigenous Mayan K'iche; the twice weekly market day in Chichi is a very colourful spectacle.
