The island is divided into four prefectures: from west to east, Chania, Rethymnon, Heraklion, and Lasithi. Crete's population is approximately 650,000. In this chapter we visit the eastern part; Lasithi. Spending a few days in and around the port town of Agios Nikolaos, the hill town of Kritsa, the small resort Sissi (Sisi) with some hiking in the inland olive groves, visiting the ruins at Lato, a Dorian city-state dating from the 4th century BC.
