Travel Pictures Gallery.com - Ecuador - Quito
a series of travel images from Ecuador, Quito, the capital city of the country lies at an elevation of around 2800 meters (9350 ft), the highest capital in the world after La Paz in Bolivia. Formally it's named San Francisco de Quito. The historic centre of the city was declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1978. For travellers it's a great place to start exploring the country. Near the city are several active volcanoes, Pichincha is the closest to the city. We make a visit to the slopes of Cotopaxi, one of the highest active volcanoes in the world at 5.897 m. Nearby is also the "Mitad del Mundo" a monument where a yellow line indicates the location of the Equator.
